The Water Cube at the recent Beijing Olympics was designed so that the walls looked like foam. I only recently saw this article on the mathematics behind it:

The article is short and a bit light on details for hardcore mathematicians but is nonetheless good. Hopefully someone will (or has) written a more mathematical exposition. I’ll attempt to locate such an article!

A Flikr group called Camera Toss (you throw the camera in the air) has been producing some great pictures of curves. Singularity theorists will recognize cusps in some of the pictures.
